Is it Time to Refresh Your Oral Routine?

Is your oral care routine still leaving something to be desired?oral hygiene

While you may always be thinking about how your habits and routines affect your overall health, you should be paying attention to how it affects your oral health, as well. Our Seekonk, MA, dentist Dr. Frank Casarella is here to offer up some helpful suggestions to revamp your everyday routine and improve your oral health.

It’s Time to Get Up!

What’s the first thing you do? Probably start your morning routine, right? Hopefully that routine also involves brushing your teeth; however, do you find that you brush your teeth after eating breakfast or right after drinking your morning coffee? If so, then you may want to consider brushing your teeth when you first wake up.

Why?

The purpose of brushing is to remove bacteria that accumulates throughout the day and also while you are sleeping. Leaving plaque and bacteria on your teeth will only serve to damage healthy teeth enamel and irritate gums.

Your Workday

Whether you’ve just scarfed down your lunch or you are about to go into a client meeting, there are many times throughout the day that you may check your breath to make sure it isn’t offensive to those around you. While packing a travel-size oral kit with you can make it easy to freshen your breath and remove food from between teeth, if you don’t have it handy, you can swish water around in your mouth and chew on a piece of sugar-free gum.

End Your Evening the Right Way

Before heading to bed, it’s time to pull out that toothbrush and your floss to give your mouth a little TLC. While our Seekonk, MA, general dentist will tell you that anytime you want to floss is a good time to do it, it can be a bit more beneficial to floss at night before you brush. By flossing first, you can remove plaque and food from between teeth so that toothpaste can reach more spaces between teeth for a more thorough clean. Plus, flossing before bedtime ensures that less plaque sits on teeth overnight.
